“I have grown so much as a person when it comes to learning how to communicate, delegate, and burst out of my safety bubble”
Bianca led a team of friends to collect sports equipment donations from her community for an organization called Gear for Goals, who help provide underprivileged African children with sports equipment.
“Being originally from South Africa, I recall that a majority of children my age and under did not have the necessary sports equipment to go outside and play due to the poverty they faced. I knew I wanted to make a change.”
She developed her communication skills, as she felt introverted and wanted to be able to express her ideas with others in a constructive way which would allow her to best achieve her goals. She also improved her ability to delegate, and led a network of friends to connect with other schools and maximize her outreach.
Bianca was paired with Lydia Mychaltchouk, who she credits for pushing her to step out of her comfort zone and challenging her to try new things.
Why did you decide to participate in Seize Your Future? Why should other young women get involved?
“ I knew that it could shape me into a better woman and give me so many opportunities.… It is a great program to get out there and take initiative and start something yourself”
Bianca will continue to collect sporting equipment, especially jerseys, around her community, expanding her network. She wishes to pursue a career in nursing.
